85% of Car Decisions Are Made by Women. Finally, an App That Gets It.

You’re sitting on your sofa, scrolling through your phone. You know your current lease is up in three months, or maybe the family is outgrowing the sedan, or perhaps you’re just ready for something that feels more like you.
You open a traditional car site, and the wall hits you. Filters for engine displacement, torque specs, and trim codes you’ve never heard of. It feels less like shopping and more like a pop quiz you didn't study for.
Here is the truth: women influence 85% of all car-purchasing decisions in the U.S. Whether we are signing the final paperwork or steering the household choice, we are the ones in the driver’s seat of the economy. Yet, for decades, the automotive world has treated us like we’re just along for the ride.
At Whips, we decided to stop trying to fit women into an old-school sales box. Instead, we built an AI-powered car discovery experience that actually matches the way we live, think, and shop.
The $600 Billion Disconnect
The numbers tell a story that the industry has ignored for too long. Women buy 62% of all new cars in the U.S. That is a massive segment of the market: over $600 billion in spending power: that still feels largely invisible when they walk onto a dealership lot.
According to a 2025 survey by GoGoGirlGo, 62% of women reported feeling talked down to or not taken seriously during their car shopping journey. Think about that: more than half of the most powerful buyers in the country feel condescended to by the people trying to sell to them.
It’s no wonder that 43% of women still do not trust the automotive industry. The process has become a defensive maneuver. In fact, 38% of women surveyed said they brought a male friend or partner with them to the dealership specifically to avoid gender bias.
We shouldn't need a "backup" just to buy a vehicle.

Why the "Search" is Broken
The traditional way to find a car is broken because it assumes you already know exactly what you want. But industry data from Cox Automotive shows that only 29% of buyers start their journey with a fixed vehicle in mind.
The other 71%? We’re in "discovery mode." We know we need more cargo space for soccer gear, or we want a hybrid that doesn't feel like a golf cart, or we need safety ratings that give us peace of mind for our teen drivers.
When you start with a blank search bar, you're forced to guess. You filter for "SUV" and "Under $40k," and you’re suddenly buried in 4,000 results that all look identical. This is where "search fatigue" sets in. For Gen Z buyers, this frustration is even more acute: 39% say they would actually delay or cancel a car purchase simply because it’s too difficult to choose the right vehicle.
Whips flips the script. We ditched the boring search filters for high-octane precision. Instead of asking you for a VIN or a trim level, we ask about your life. Our AI-powered car discovery engine learns what you love (and what you don't) through a simple, intuitive swiping interface.
Facing the "Showroom Shuffle"
If the online search is frustrating, the dealership experience has recently become even more of a hurdle. The 2025 AutoAlert Friction Points study found that 58% of buyers faced a problem at the dealership: a significant jump from 47% just a year prior.
At the same time, Net Promoter Scores (NPS) at dealerships have plummeted from a healthy +48 to a struggling +29. People are tired of the "showroom shuffle": the hours spent in a small office while a salesperson "checks with their manager."

For women, this friction is doubled. When 31% of women report being talked down to and 70% say they do not fully trust their salesperson, the "deal" starts to feel like a battle. A Citroën-commissioned study of over 7,500 women found that 48% believe the current car sales system was designed by and for men.
They aren't wrong. The loud music, the aggressive "what can I do to get you in this car today" lines, and the lack of price transparency are relics of a different era.
Discovery-First: A New Way to Swipe
Whips was built to be the antidote to the "red flags" of car shopping. We believe that finding your perfect ride should be as easy as ordering dinner or finding a new show on Netflix.
When you use Whips, you aren't just looking at a list of specs. You’re seeing why a car fits you. Our AI highlights the pros and cons based on real-world needs.
Is it safe? We’ll tell you.
Does it fit the strollers? We’ve got you.
Is the tech easy to use, or will it make you want to pull over? You’ll know before you ever step foot on the lot.

This discovery-first approach removes the pressure. You can swipe through 2 million cars from the comfort of your own home, at your own pace. There’s no salesperson hovering over your shoulder, and no one making you feel like you don't belong in the conversation.
We’ve seen the results. Whips users aren't just "searching": they are matching. With 45,000 daily swipes and a 5-star rating, it’s clear that people (and women especially) are hungry for a way to shop that respects their time and their intelligence.
The Power of the Swipe
Why swiping? Because it’s mobile-native and low-stakes. It allows you to explore categories you might have never considered. Maybe you thought you wanted a mid-size SUV, but after a few swipes, the Whips notices you’re liking sleek, high-efficiency wagons.
Discovery is about finding the thing you didn't know you needed.
By the time you actually decide to talk to a dealer, you aren't a "lead" to be "closed." You are an informed buyer who knows exactly why that specific vehicle is your match. You have the data, you have the confidence, and you have the power.

A Car Should Fit Your Story
The automotive industry is slowly waking up to the fact that women are the ultimate decision-makers. But "slowly" isn't fast enough for us.
We built Whips to bridge the gap between the 85% influence and the 43% trust. We believe that shopping for a car should feel like an upgrade to your life, not a chore on your to-do list. No haggling. No pressure. Just a smarter, simpler way to discover what's next.
Your next car doesn’t know it’s waiting for you. Yet.
But with a few swipes, you’ll find each other.
